Frequently asked questions

Kombucha is a fermented drink made using tea, cane sugar and a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast called SCOBY.

We know many people have told you it’s a mushroom, but they weren’t totally right. A Scoby is an acronym for Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast. It’s the magical ingredient that feeds itself on sugar and caffeine and generates organic acids, digestive enzymes and good bacteria (probiotics) which make kombucha a healthy and balanced drink.

In order to keep all the kombucha benefits, our kombucha isn’t filtered nor pasteurized and is very much alive. This way, with every sip, your body can take advantage of all the probiotics, digestive enzymes and organic acids naturally produced by fermentation.

You have to keep your kombucha in the fridge (0-4 °Celsius) because it’s still alive. Otherwise, it will continue to ferment and might lose its awesome taste.

Once placed in a can or barrel, our kombucha can be preserved for six months. For cans, you can refer to the expiration date written on the bottom of the can. For containers filled at our keg stations, we recommend consumption within one month. It’s important to keep the product refrigerated.

All kombucha contains traces of alcohol caused by fermentation. However, our kombuchas contain less than 0.5% alcohol. But you can use it to create tasty cocktails!

Fermented and raw products aren’t advised for pregnant women.

We have two ranges of kombucha. For the first one containing organic cane sugar, the carbohydrate rate varies from 3 to 4%. As for our sugar-free range, our kombuchas have 0% carbohydrate.

Since fermentation requires sugar, we use cane sugar. We then fully ferment the kombucha until there are only tiny traces of residual sugar left. To replace the taste of sugar, we use organic erythritol and stevia.

We only use whole and 100% organic ingredients. We do it for your health, to reduce the consumption of pesticides and for the planet to keep our Earth and our waterways clean.

Our kombucha is naturally decaffeinated and contains less than 11mg of caffeine per can.

It means that we carefully select powerful herbs and plants, like astragalus or rhodiola, to complement our flavors. Plants are so alive and full of energy and all have their own characteristics which are very good for your body and health. At Gutsy, our mission is to brew a healthy and flavorsome kombucha, and since plants are so powerful, this is why we decided to include them in our recipes.

Quite simply because we want to make healthy and tasty kombucha and we believe that there is nothing that tastes better than nature itself. We therefore believe that it is not necessary to add these ingredients.

We donate 1% of our sales of cans to organizations that care about the environment and take concrete action to have a positive impact on the environment. We have recently supported Mission 100 Tonnes and Nature Québec.

Everyone has a different digestive system, you just have to listen to your body. Initially, we recommend consuming between 250ml and 350ml for the first consumptions, and see how your body reacts. You can then increase the quantities.
